While many pieces of jewelry appear to be made of gold, they may not be. Apart from gold and Karat gold, commonly used metals for decorative jewelry include gold-plated alloy, gold-plated brass, gold-plated sterling silver, and 14k rolled gold made in the United States (In general, quality and price increase proportionately.).
After being synthesized with other metals, soft gold can be transformed into Karat gold, which has a color suitable for modern jewelry, increased hardness and toughness, and exhibits a variety of colors. The term “K” (karat) refers to the content and purity of gold, and one K equals 4.1666% gold. The most common grades of gold are 24K, 18K, 14K, and 10K. The greater the number, the more gold is contained.
SELUNA’s jewelry is primarily made of 10K, 14K, and 18K gold, with a gold content of 42%, 58.5%, and 75% respectively.
925 sterling silver contains 92.5% silver. Because pure sterling silver is too soft and prone to oxidation and discoloration to be used in jewelry, adding 7.5% of other metals increases its toughness and durability.
Pure silver jewelry that is susceptible to chemical reactions with sulfur dioxide in the air to form silver sulfide on the surface, commonly known as oxidation, can be cleaned and maintained using silver washing water and silver wiping cloths, among other things.
About color loss:
Except for real gold, no golden jewelry can be guaranteed to retain its original color indefinitely. All gold-plated jewelry, regardless of material, will completely lose their color. The only difference is that those made with superior craftsmanship will retain their color for a longer period of time. In addition, the color retention effect is affected by different usage habits. In our shop, we prefer to use 14k gold that is manufactured in the United States. Due to the patented process, they are more resistant to wear than standard gold-plated materials, making them ideal for personal accessories such as earrings and necklaces. We strive to achieve the best possible color retention effect.
About allergies:
In fact, allergies are determined by a person’s physical attributes. Everyone can have their allergies tested in the hospital if they are allergic to the substance to which they have been exposed. We recommend jewelry made of relatively stable 925 sterling silver and American-made 14k gold, which, according to customers, are the least allergenic metals and are suitable for the majority of people.
Maintenance advice for metal jewelry:
